DC-powered and solar-powered embedded system development

We develop DC powered computer and embedded system infrastructures for our customers' off-grid field projects. We evaluate solar energy, battery, control electronics and communication needs through a common energy budget.

Your project, your product

Developed confidentially and delivered with source files.

We may work with a confidentiality agreement (NDA) before sharing technical details. At the end of the project, we deliver the source codes, design files and technical documents we have developed to you.

  • NDA before sharing technical information
  • Clear deliverables agreed at the outset
  • Source and technical files at the end of the project

VOMRO engineering approach

We calculate the duty cycle before selecting the energy source.

The energy needs of a constantly on computer and a sensor device that wakes up at regular intervals are different. Processing time, communication frequency, peripherals and standby consumption are calculated together. Panel and battery sizing should be based on the actual operating cycle of the device.

VOMRO translates the energy budget into power-electronics and software decisions. Location, season, installation and maintenance access are assessed; uninterrupted operation is not inferred from the solar panel's nameplate rating alone.

01

Load profile and energy budget

Consumption for active operation, sleep, startup and data transfer is handled separately. Short-term demands of loads such as a display, sensor heater or modem are also taken into account. Targeted operating time and priorities in case of low energy are determined; Critical tasks and deferrable tasks can be separated in the software.

  • Active and standby consumption
  • Task priorities when energy is low
02

Power path and controlled shutdown

DC conversion, charging infrastructure and protection needs are evaluated according to the selected energy source. Monitoring the supply voltage, sequential commissioning of loads and controlled shutdown can be planned. In computer-based applications, data integrity, restart, and storage behavior are examined along with power design.

  • Power supply and load management
  • Shutdown and restart flow
03

Housing, connection and field verification

Temperature, humidity, cable entries and service access affect the electronics enclosure. Communication intervals and energy consumption are balanced for the project. The prototype is assessed with actual loads, measuring runtime, solar-panel contribution and battery behaviour. Required external tests are planned separately for the intended use and power architecture.

  • Environment and mechanical layout
  • Runtime based on measurements

How it works

A clear process from start to delivery.

Not every project looks the same; however, the measurable requirement, controlled revision, and field verification steps remain unchanged.

  1. 01

    We determine the tasks

We define the operating cycle, region and energy continuity target.

  2. 02

    We make the budget

We calculate the loads, power losses and power source requirements together.

  3. 03

    We develop the control system

We establish the power supply, task scheduling and shutdown behaviour together.

  4. 04

    We measure before delivery

We organise the prototype results and approved design source files together.

Frequently asked questions

Before starting the project

The technical scope, deliverables and test plan are clarified together according to the requirements of your project.

How many days does it work without the sun?

The duration cannot be given without determining the load profile, battery, temperature and operating mode. The target time is evaluated by energy budget and prototype measurements.

Can an existing computer or sensor be used?

The integration of existing hardware into the system can be evaluated by examining supply limits, power consumption and shutdown requirements.

Will you hand over the source files confidentially?

We can work under an NDA. We deliver the project's source code, design and technical files at the end of the project; we define the deliverables at the outset.
